I work as a General and Colorectal Surgeon at the Christie NHS Foundation Trust since 2011 and privately at the Spire Manchester Hospital. I practice laparoscopic and robotic colorectal surgery for benign and malignant colorectal conditions. I offer laparoscopic repair for suitable abdominal wall hernias including TEP procedure.

I am also an accredited screening colonoscopist through the national bowel cancer screening programme and offer regular diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopies. I practice minimally invasive and relatively painless treatment for haemorrhoids including (HALO/THD) and Rafaelo procedure. I also offer laparoscopic splenectomy and cholecystectomy.

I trained in the North West region of the UK, and did a year of advanced colorectal clinical fellowship at the Mayo Clinic, USA to learn comprehensive management of colorectal conditions. I did years of clinical research at University College London on premalignant conditions leading to Doctor of Medicine. I also visited IRCAD Centre in Strasbourg, University of Chicago, St Mary’s Hospital, Seoul as a travelling fellow to broaden my clinical and academic experience.

I am a convener of education and Wade Professor of Surgical Studies at the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh involved in strategic decision making in surgical education. I am also an examiner at the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. I am the council member for NW and Mersey for the Association of Laparoscopic Surgeons of GB and Ireland and am involved in increasing the uptake of minimal access surgery regionally. I am involved in conducting surgical teaching programmes and courses locally.

I hold an honorary senior lecturer position at the University of Manchester. I also train other consultants and specialist registrars in laparoscopic colorectal surgery and am one of the national trainers through the Department of Health sponsored programme.
